Feedback discussion of your PhD project

Regular dialogue is crucial for the goal-oriented progress of a doctoral project. You will discuss the status of your research project regularly with your supervisor and your mentor and adjust your project plan to new circumstances. Especially after one to at most two years, there will be an intensive feedback discussion (status discussion) in the context of a university-public talk or a contribution at a scientific conference. Alternatively or in addition, you shall provide a written summary of your up-to-date results or a scientific publication.

This feedback talk is an official milestone within the doctoral phase, according to PromO, so make sure to distinguish it from your regular meetings with your supervisor.

The TUM-GS Wiki has more information about the regulations.

Evaluation basis (settled in advance)

  • Either a seminar talk publicly announced to internal university members (“hochschulöffentlicher Vortrag” = a TUM-internal talk announced in advance)

  • or a presentation at an academic conference

  • or a written interim report by the doctoral candidate on the progress of the research work

  • or a scientific paper submitted for publication if it reflects the results of the research work exhaustively

Confirmation

Please record the progress of the feedback meeting in a document signed by both parties.

Please make sure that the following documents are available:

  • the minutes of the meeting,

  • the updated project plan and

  • the updated supervision agreement.

At the Graduate Center of Natural Sciences, it is not necessary to formally submit updates to the project plan and the supervision agreement.

Your supervisor confirms to the Graduate Center of Natural Sciences that this feedback discussion occurred and that these documents are available.
