Application and Admission for the Master's Program in Biochemistry
The Master's program in Biochemistry at TUM can be started in both the winter and summer semesters and is subject to a two-stage suitability assessment process (EV).
In Stage 1 of the EV, the submitted application documents are evaluated and scored according to predetermined criteria. Suitable applicants are invited to a personal selection interview on-site in Stage 2 of the EV. The outcome of the interview determines admission or rejection. Invitations to the selection interview are sent at least one week before the interview date via email.
Tuition Fees for International Students
In principle, studying at TUM is free of charge. All you have to do is pay the semester fee for the student union.
For international students from third countries, i.e. from countries that do not belong to the European Economic Area (EU + Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), tuition fees will be charged from the winter semester 2024/25. All information about fee levels, waivers and scholarship programs can be found on the tuition fees for international students website.
Documents to be submitted
In the TUM application portal, the following documents must be uploaded:
- Proof of academic achievement (grade report, transcript of records, or similar) totaling at least 140 CP, issued and certified by the relevant examination authority,
- Current and complete curriculum vitae up to the application date,
- Letter of motivation for choosing the degree program (maximum 1-2 DIN-A4 pages),
- Declaration that the statement of motivation was prepared independently and without external assistance, and any external ideas or sources are appropriately cited.
International applicants
International applicants who have obtained their bachelor's degree in a country outside the EU/EWR must apply for a preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni assist. The application to uni assist must be completed independently of the online application to TUM by the respective application deadline. The fee-based VPD indicates whether access to the Master's program in Biochemistry at TUM is granted. All applicants without German citizenship, who are not from German-speaking countries and have not obtained German university entrance qualification, must provide proof of German language proficiency. A list of recognized language certificates can be found at https://www.tum.de/en/studies/application/application-info-portal/admission-requirements/language-certificates.
