Application for the Master's program in Chemistry

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following admission requirements:

  • A qualified bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a comparable program with substantial similarity to the TUM Chemistry bachelor's program, obtained from a domestic or foreign university and spanning at least six semesters.
  • Completion and passing of the two-stage aptitude assessment process.

Tuition Fees for International Students

In principle, studying at TUM is free of charge. All you have to do is pay the semester fee for the student union.

For international students from third countries, i.e. from countries that do not belong to the European Economic Area (EU + Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), tuition fees will be charged from the winter semester 2024/25. Application Process Flow

The application deadlines for the Master's program in Chemistry are set from April 1st to May 31st for the winter semester, and from October 1st to January 15th for the summer semester.

Applications are submitted digitally via the TUM application portal.

The following documents must be uploaded:

  • Completed, printed application form with handwritten signature
  • Proof of previous subject-specific studies (certified copy of the diploma or a current official transcript of records with at least 130 ECTS credits), including a list of completed courses with titles, ECTS credits, hours, and grades (Transcript of Records)
  • Current and comprehensive curriculum vitae (tabular) and passport photo
  • Personal statement of motivation (written explanation for the choice of the program), maximum two A4 pages, including a declaration that the statement was prepared independently and without external assistance.
  • Additionally, for all applicants whose native language is not German and who do not provide proof of German university entrance qualification: A recognized German language certificate. A list of recognized language certificates can be found on the central TUM website.
  • Copy of the identity card/passport
  • If applicable: Proof of program-specific additional qualifications

    Procedure of the Aptitude Assessment

    The Master's program in Chemistry at TUM follows a two-stage aptitude assessment process.

    Stage 1

    Evaluation of the submitted documents; if direct admission or rejection is not possible in Stage 1, Stage 2 follows.

    Stage 2

    Personal interview (outcome of the interview determines admission or rejection). Dates are set for the winter semester from mid-August to the end of September and for the summer semester from mid-March to mid-April.
