Prof. Janos Mink from Hungary is a long term guest in the TUM Chemistry. He is a world-class expert in vibrational spectroscopy and likes to teach young scientist about this effective and fascinating techniques for Raman and IR spectroscopy.

His first course is a kind of basic course.

Highlights include:

• Determine how local symmetry in your molecule influences the pattern in your spectrum

• Learn how IR and Raman spectrometers work and how you can use them efficiently

• Interpret your spectrum for common (mostly organic) compounds

We would start at Friday, October 11th with a discussion and the first lecture in the computer room 21019 in the chemistry building. The course lasts 8 days with two lectures from 9-12 and 13-15 or 12 days with lectures from 9-12. Also included are half day lab demonstrations at a IR machine and at a Raman machine in the catalytic research center.
