Entry of stays abroad in the Diploma Supplement

You were abroad during your studies for a semester abroad or a research internship, and want to know whether and how the completed stay abroad can be documented in the final documents of TUM?

The Diploma Supplement (DS) was developed in connection with the creation of a European Higher Education Area and contains information that helps educational institutions and employers at home and abroad to classify your qualification correctly according to uniform criteria. This makes the academic career of graduates more transparent and facilitates access to the international higher education and employment market. The DS is issued as an English-language supplement to the university degree certificate and is therefore one of TUM's final documents.

Stays abroad can be included in the Diploma Supplement under “Additional Information”. These stays must be meaningfully related to the study objective and last at least two months or at least three ECTS credits must be earned during the stay. Both program stays and self-organized stays abroad can be documented in the Diploma Supplement if you have registered the stay in the MoveOn portal.

Instructions for inclusion in the Diploma Supplement

In order to initiate the digital process for entering your stay abroad into DS and to avoid possible delays in issuing your final documents after graduation, you must have submitted the required documents in MoveOn as soon as possible after the end of your stay.

If you have participated in one of the following programs, additional registration of your stay is not required. The prerequisite for automatic registration is that you have submitted the required documents, e.g. experience report and Confirmation of Stay, after your stay abroad and the program stay has been fully completed.

  • TUMexchange
  • Erasmus+ study and internship
  • ATHENS
  • Swiss European Mobility Program (SEMP), study and internship
  • Stays abroad via scholarships from the TUM Global & Alumni Office
  • Double degree (recorded via the school and registered in MoveON)

If you have uploaded the required documents, e.g. experience report and confirmation of stay, in the corresponding MoveOn form, the stay will automatically be entered in the Diploma Supplement. The data is entered into TUMonline four times a year: in March, June, September and December on the basis of the previous month's data.

For these stays, the entry will only appear in the Diploma Supplement if you have received an e-mail confirming the entry before you apply for your degree documents. Therefore, please wait until you receive this e-mail before you have your degree documents issued. If you have not received this e-mail, please get in touch with your contact person at TUM Global.

In addition to TUM's opportunities abroad, you can also organize a stay abroad on your own. So-called free mover stays include e.g. study semesters, final theses, study trips, internships abroad. The stay must be meaningfully related to the study program and must have lasted at least 2 months or, if the stay was shorter, credits must have been earned during the stay (e.g. ATHENS courses, summer courses).

The stay can be automatically entered in the Diploma Supplement, if you register the self-organized stay in MoveOn ande upload the required documents (experience report and confirmation of stay). Please use the form Outgoing - Registration of other mobilities (free mover and other programs).

Please register your stay and upload the required documents as soon as possible after the end of your stay, in order to avoid delays in issuing your final documents after graduation. The data is entered into TUMonline four times a year: in March, June, September and December on the basis of the previous month's data. As soon as the entry has been made, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.
